When it Comes to PFAS, Summit Knows the Drill
Summit Drilling has extensive experience helping environmental consultants safely and effectively investigate and treat sites with emerging contaminants. With more and more sites requiring characterization for PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), Summit has implemented new and proven-effective drilling methods to avoid cross-contamination of samples from drilling materials and sampling equipment, such as packers, pumps, valves, and transducers – even personal protective equipment. Summit’s operating procedures are consistent with best practices detailed in the National Ground Water Association’s comprehensive guidance documents.
“There are unique standards for this type of work, states Dermot Dillon, VP of Major Accounts at Summit Drilling. “Due to the very low reporting limits associated with PFAS, special precautions must be taken in preparation and materials use to avoid cross contamination. We have executed flawlessly on multiple large-scale military projects, airports, and superfund sites with PFAS as the primary contaminant. I’m very confident in our project managers and expertly trained field teams who have continually demonstrated their ability to successfully address sites affected by this pervasive contaminant”, Dillon concludes.
Summit has been supporting PFAS investigation and remediation since the emergence of the contaminant. They have worked through changing standards and guidance with great agility and responsiveness. This wealth of on-site experience creates a unique level of knowledge that goes beyond a basic checklist. While other drilling contractors may be continually preparing equipment for PFAS sites for example, Summit has proactively dedicated specific segments of their depots and tooling to further minimize risk and ensure PFAS compliance. More than a project manager reviewing an outline of approved PPE, Summit field teams go through specific PFAS training to heighten awareness and mitigate cross contamination challenges.
PFAS will continue to be a dynamic challenge for the industry. Be confident and choose Summit, the team with PFAS experience from Vermont to Virginia.
